More National Day Mania…

Sep 21st, 2009 Posted in China news, Festival, china travel | no comment »

As the build up to October 1st continues the Beijinger has several posts worth a look starting with this one about the lengths soldiers go to perfect their posture… Ouch – no falling asleep on the job there.

One of the things you never see over Beijing are aircraft. Well, here is a set of photos of the planes practicing for a fly by on October 1st. The comments below are a good example of expat humour with regard to all the restrictions in the city in the run up to the parade.

Lastly, on a more serious note, if you happen to be flying into Beijing on the morning of October it seems you won’t be.

Good luck!

Beijing 798 Biennale

Aug 12th, 2009 Posted in China Art, Festival | no comment »

Starting August the 15th in Beijing is the 798 Biennale – a celebration of Chinese contemporary art held in the increasingly commercial enclave of Dashanzi in the north east of Beijing. The commercialization isn’t welcomed by all and in the usual Beijing way another gallery area is hoping to fill the void a short distance away at Caochangdi.

Read more about the Biennale here and about Caochangdi here (in Chinese only). The Beijing supplies some comment on the rivalry here

And for those who can remember the original Dashanzi (aka Dangdai) International Art Festival there are some photos below from way way back in 2006 – an eon ago in China time!

InMusic festival, Beijing

Aug 12th, 2009 Posted in Festival, Music | no comment »

Music festivals are a bit of a hit and miss affair in China. In fact, more often miss as they tend to be cancelled last minute. So, it is always a bit of a surprise when one actually goes ahead. Here is a review of the InMusic festival held recently in Beijing courtesy of The Beijinger.
